Item 8.01 Other Events.
On August 15, 2016, Aetna Inc. (the “Company”) announced that it will reduce its participation on the individual health insurance exchanges established under the Affordable Care Act (“public exchanges”) to 242 counties for the 2017 plan year from the 778 counties it serves in the 2016 plan year. The counties the Company plans to serve in 2017 represented approximately 20% of its individual public exchange membership at June 30, 2016. The Company will maintain an on-exchange presence for the 2017 plan year in Delaware, Iowa, Nebraska and Virginia. The Company will continue to offer an off-public exchange product option for 2017 to consumers in the vast majority of counties where it offered individual public exchange products in 2016.

In addition, pending efforts in the U.S. Congress to amend or restrict funding for various aspects of health care reform and pending litigation challenging aspects of the law continue to create additional uncertainty about the ultimate impact of health care reform. As a result, many of the impacts of health care reform will not be known for the next several years.
