Impact Podcast with John Shegerian to Present Special Three-Part Series Featuring In-Depth Interview with Jeanette Lee

Legendary Professional Pool Champion, “The Black Widow,” Shares Her Life Story, Triumphant Battle Against Cancer and More

Champion professional pool player Jeanette Lee, is the subject of a special three-part, in-depth conversation this weekend on the Impact Podcast with John Shegerian. The show is hosted by Shegerian, Co-Founder and Chairman/CEO of ERI.

Lee was nicknamed the “Black Widow” because, in spite of her sweet demeanor, she would "eat people alive" when she got to a pool table and always wear black when playing pool. An icon of her sport, Lee was born to Korean-immigrant parents in Brooklyn in 1971. She started playing pool in 1989, after watching pro Johnny Ervolino at Chelsea Billiards in Manhattan. She began her career playing in the local and regional scenes of New York City. She went on to rank as the number one female pool player in the world during the 1990s. In addition to many top finishes on the WPBA Tour, she won the gold medal for the United States at the 2001 World Games in Akita, Japan, and won the ladies' winner-take-all Tournament of Champions twice, in 1999 and 2003.

In February 2021, she announced that she had been diagnosed with stage IV ovarian cancer. In May 2022, it was reported that her chemotherapy treatments were successful and she was cancer-free. A documentary about her life, Jeanette Lee Vs., premiered at the Doc NYC film festival and is part of the ESPN series 30 for 30.

In the Impact Podcast interview, Lee shares details of her rise to fame and how she conquered a unique combination of challenges to get to where she is today.

“It was an honor to have Jeanette, a true icon of her sport and triumphant spirit on so many levels, on our show to share her incredible story,” said Shegerian. “Our audience is sure to be inspired by and learn much from this captivating conversation.”

“After looking at the nature and stature of the guests John has interviewed on the Impact Podcast, I was extremely honored to be in their company,” said Lee. “When he told me that the show is doing a three-part special, I was blown away.”

Lee’s forthcoming book, “The Black Widow: A Memoir” is scheduled for release August 13, 2024 and is available for pre-order now at Amazon.com or Triumphbooks.com.

Impact Podcast guests are invited as thought leaders to share with listeners first-hand accounts of how they are able to help make the world a better place on a daily basis.

The Impact Podcast with John Shegerian is available for listening on ImpactPodcast.com, Apple’s iTunes, Amazon Music, Google Podcasts, Spotify, libsyn, and as part of iHeartRadio’s digital broadcast, reaching over 120 million users.
