Fitness Fahrenheit has released a guide for expecting moms, outlining various abdominal muscle exercises they can do safely to strengthen their core.

—
The new guide provides a quick overview of the safest time during pregnancy when an expecting mom can do sit-ups, as well as the potential side effects of the exercise. The fitness expert also highlights alternative and safe workout routines pregnant women can perform to keep their core strong.

In its latest guide, Fitness Fahrenheit states that sit-ups can be done during the first trimester with little to no issue. However, beyond the first three months of pregnancy, women should avoid exercises that require lying on one’s back to perform them, including sit-ups.
While working the abs during pregnancy has some benefits, such as strengthening the pelvic floor muscles, reducing back pain, and ensuring faster labor and postpartum recovery, Fitness Fahrenheit points out that these types of exercises could cause diastasis recti - a situation where the abdominal muscles separate at the midline.
"It’s not just the potential threat of diastasis recti that is a problem, though," the guide noted. "Laying on your back for any long period after the first trimester poses its own risk."
As such, Fitness Fahrenheit suggests some pregnancy-safe core exercises that expecting women can incorporate into their routines without endangering themselves or the fetus. Cat-cow pose, seated pelvic tilts, bird dog, and modified side plank are four of the workout routines highlighted in the guide.
These exercises, as Fitness Fahrenheit explained, are suitable for pregnant women, allowing them to stay fit and healthy without putting too much pressure on themselves.
The fitness expert also emphasizes that before attempting any new exercises, expecting moms should seek approval from their healthcare provider.
In addition to this guide, women can also find additional resources on Fitness Fahrenheit's website, including Pilates strength training, 5x5 strong lifts for women, "does running make your butt bigger?", and more.
