Who will win this year’s College Basketball National Championship?

As the stretch run approaches of the college basketball regular season, the best of the best are starting to create some separation from the pack. Teams like Kansas and UCLA have solidified themselves as national championship contenders with dominant finishes to their conference schedules, and Houston and Alabama just keep winning. Only one of our top five most likely champions, Purdue, has decreased in probability of winning it all from last week.

Our DimersBOT model has locked in on five teams that have the best chance to win the national championship at the end of the college basketball season.

The top five teams that could win the College Basketball National Championship

1. Houston Cougars

For the third consecutive week, Houston stays at the top as our model’s most probable champion. We give the Cougars a 9.3% probability to win the national championship, the highest our model has recorded them at this season. Sitting at +650 odds, they are the betting favorite as well.

The Cougars have made it clear that they are drastically better than the other teams in the American conference. Barring a shocking twist, Houston will be #1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, and the favorite to win it all.

2. Kansas Jayhawks

Kansas is our model’s 2nd-most probable champion. We give the Jayhawks a 7.3% probability to win the national championship, up from 6.1% last week. You can bet Kansas to win it all at +850 odds.

Death, taxes and Bill Self’s team winning the Big 12. The Jayhawks clinched a conference championship after a special finish to the regular season, and it seems like months ago that the defending national champions were hobbling in the midst of three straight Big 12 losses. There’s no doubt that Jalen Wilson, Gradey Dick and the rest of the Jayhawks could cut down the nets, and our model agrees, making Kansas the biggest riser week over week heading into March.

3. Alabama Crimson Tide

Alabama is our model’s 3rd-most probable champion. We give the Crimson Tide a 6.8% probability to win the national championship, up from 6.7% last week. You can bet Alabama to win it all at +900 odds.

Alabama has been at the center of the media cycle of the sport the last two weeks, with Nate Oats’ controversial comments about the Brandon Miller situation taking center stage. Despite the distractions, the Alabama basketball tam has pressed on in impressive fashion. Our model hasn’t budged – keeping the Crimson Tide right in the thick of things as a national championship contender.

4. UCLA Bruins

UCLA is our model’s 4th-most probable champion. We give the Bruins a 5.6% probability to win the national championship, up from 4.5% last week. You can bet UCLA to win it all at +1200 odds.

UCLA re-claims their spot in our top 5 likely champions thanks to yet another winning week. The Bruins have established themselves as a dominant team against lesser opponents in the PAC 12, the question is what will they do when they face some of the best teams in the country. It’s hard not to like the Bruins right now, as shown by our model increasing their chances of winning it all by 1.1%.

5. Purdue Boilermakers

Purdue is our model’s 5th-most probable champion. We give the Boilermakers a 5.5% probability to win the national championship, down from 6.0% last week. You can bet Purdue to win it all at +1200 odds.

Purdue is the only team in our top 5 that is trending in the wrong direction. Purdue struggled on the road in February against lesser Big Ten teams, and the Boilermakers’ freshman backcourt has come under scrutiny in big moments. Matt Painter will need his superstar center Zach Edey to dominate singlehandedly to win six straight NCAA Tournament games.
