Company Update (NASDAQ:AMZN): Amazon’s U.K. cloud chief on Brexit: ‘Keep calm and keep on innovating’

[at American City Business Journals] – Following the United Kingdom’s decision to exit the European Union, Amazon (AMZN) isn’t backing down from its expansion plans in the country – it’s ramping up. The Seattle-based company this week announced plans to create 1,000 new jobs across the U.K. That’s in addition to the 2,500 jobs Amazon announced last year it would add there, along with its plans to add two new fulfillment centers and open more U.K. data centers. The new jobs will bring Amazon’s U.K. headcount to more than 15,000. Read more on this. Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN) , with a current market cap of $351.89B, began trading this morning at $740.14. A quick look at the market, the company’s stock traded between $738.00 and $746.10 and has traded between $439.00 and $746.10 over the past year. AMZN shares are currently priced at 136.65x this year’s forecasted earnings, which makes them relatively expensive compared to the industry’s 19.36x earnings multiple. In a review of the consensus earnings estimate this quarter, 36 sell-side analysts are looking at $1.10 per share, which would be $0.91 better than the year-ago quarter and a $0.12 sequential increase. Investors should also note that the full-year EPS estimate of $5.39 is a $4.14 improvement when compared to the previous year’s annual results. The quarterly earnings estimate is predicated on a consensus revenue forecast of $29.54 Billion. If reported, that would be a 27.44% increase over the year-ago quarter. In terms of ratings, Maxim Group Initiated AMZN at Buy (Jun 23, 2016). Previously, Raymond James downgraded AMZN from Strong Buy to Outperform. The average price target for AMZN shares by the analysts covering it is $804.55, which is 8.70% above where the stock opened.
