Celebrating the history and beauty of the PT6-A Engine.

Terre Haute, Indiana Nov 16, 2022 (Issuewire.com) - The U.S. independent leader in repairs and overhauls of the popular Pratt & Whitney PT6-A Engine is hosting a photo contest for photographs celebrating the hardest-working engine in the aviation industry!

Photographers are invited to submit photos of planes in action, planes on the ramp, planes at work, and planes in for service, the only requirement is that the plane must include a PT6-A engine.

Entries may be submitted using this form.

What is a PT6-A engine?

Commonly used in agriculture, firefighting, forestry, and business aviation, the PT-6a PT6a is a gas turbine engine that is incredibly reliable and versatile.

It's easily recognizable because it looks "backwards" which has proven to be a key attribute to its success: its rearward, reverse flow inlet, and forward-facing turbine section provides fast maintenance turn-around through on-wing hot section refurbishment in most aircraft installations. The PT6A is a two-shaft engine with a multi-stage compressor driven by a single-stage compressor turbine and an independent shaft coupling the power turbine to the propeller through an epicyclic concentric reduction gearbox. (AKA "planetary gear train.")

The PT6A is the only engine to achieve Single Engine Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) status for passenger revenue activity in North America, Australia, Europe, and New Zealand.

Popular aircraft that use the PT6-A engine include the PC-12, the King Air, the Air Tractor, and Thrush.
