CHICAGO, IL, January 23, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Maria Teresa Tam, MD, has been recognized as a 2025 Castle Connolly Top Doctor, marking the third time she has received the prestigious Top Doctor honor. Only about 7 percent of the nation's licensed physicians are selected each year as Castle Connolly Top Doctors, celebrating excellence in their specialties in their regions.
Dr. Tam is an accomplished gynecologist and gynecologic surgeon known for performing complex, minimally invasive gynecologic surgeries. She has been in practice since 1998.
She is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG), and she is a Fellow of both the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). She has an ABOG Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery Focused Practice Designation.
In 2013, Dr. Tam opened All for Women Healthcare, her own private practice, where she offers patients a comprehensive range of advanced gynecologic services and procedures, all dedicated to improving women's health and well-being.
Dr. Tam performs a range of innovative, complex surgeries, including those that utilize the da Vinci® Robotic Surgical System, or laparoscopy — including hysterectomy (removal of uterus), myomectomy (removal of fibroids), salpingo-oophorectomy (removal of ovaries and fallopian tubes), laparoscopic salpingectomy (removal of the fallopian tubes) for permanent sterilization, and removal of endometriosis tissue. For the privacy, safety, and convenience of her patients, Dr. Tam also offers in-office procedures including hysteroscopy and endometrial biopsy, endometrial ablation, and loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP).
Her clinical mindset focuses on the use of conservative, non-invasive, and minimally invasive techniques to address issues like abnormal uterine bleeding, fibroids, endometrial polyps, and pelvic-floor disorders. For pelvic-organ prolapse, she offers vaginal pessaries as an effective non-surgical option. She is highly skilled in properly fitting women for these devices.
"Compared to patients who undergo traditional 'open' surgeries, patients treated with minimally invasive procedures typically experience quicker recoveries, fewer complications from infections and tissue trauma, and shorter hospital stays," Dr. Tam says.
In addition to providing advanced gynecologic surgeries, Dr. Tam collaborates with the skilled Women's Health Nurse Practitioners (WH-NPs) in her practice to deliver routine screening and preventive care. This includes well-woman exams, management of common gynecologic conditions, hormone therapy, and non-surgical, in-office procedures such as biopsies, colposcopies, and contraception counseling. Together, they provide birth-control services, including prescriptions and the insertion of NEXPLANON® hormone-delivery implants and intrauterine devices (IUDs). All three clinicians evaluate and treat gynecologic issues including menopause symptoms; irregular and heavy menstrual bleeding; pelvic organ prolapse; and other pelvic disorders. Together, they deliver personalized and accessible care tailored to meet the needs of every patient.
As a noted authority on the use of vaginal pessaries to mitigate the symptoms of pelvic organ prolapse, Dr. Tam co-edited the textbook Vaginal Pessaries, in addition to co-authoring the textbook Ambulatory Gynecology. Dr. Tam's compassionate and attentive approach builds trust, encourages open communication, and empowers patients to actively participate in their care, leading to better adherence to treatment plans and improved health outcomes.
"At All For Women Healthcare, our commitment to listening and responding to each patient's individual needs is the cornerstone of our success in delivering exceptional care," she says.
In addition to her practice responsibilities, Dr. Tam serves as the medical director of minimally invasive gynecologic surgery at Ascension Saint Francis Hospital, Evanston; and as residency instructor of minimally invasive gynecologic surgery at Ascension Saint Joseph Hospital, Chicago.
Dr. Tam is also affiliated with Rush University Medical Center (Chicago) and Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center (Chicago), giving patients a wide choice of locations where they can have their surgeries with Dr. Tam.
All For Women Healthcare values clear communication and inclusivity, with Dr. Tam speaking English and Tagalog (Filipino) and her staff fluent in Chinese and Spanish, ensuring personalized care for a diverse patient community.
Top Doctors are nominated by peer physicians and selected by the physician-led Castle Connolly research team.
"Being recognized as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor for the third year in a row is a deeply humbling honor," says Dr. Tam. "It reflects the trust and respect of my peers, which motivates me to continue providing exceptional, patient-centered care and to uphold the highest standards in women's health."
Dr. Tam earned her medical degree at Chicago Medical School/ Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science (North Chicago, Illinois). She completed a four-year obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN) residency at Ascension Saint Joseph, Chicago, and a fellowship in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery at Penn State Health - Milton S. Hershey Medical Center (Hershey, Pennsylvania).
As a medical researcher, she is currently pursuing a Master of Science degree in clinical research at Rush University Graduate College in support of her ongoing research studies.
