Duke Energy Donates Nearly $35,000 to Community and Environmental Programs in Oklahoma

CHARLOTTE, N.C., April 1, 2021 /3BL Media/ – Duke Energy Foundation has awarded nearly $35,000 in grants through its Duke Energy Renewables fund to schools, community enrichment programs and wildlife rescue organizations in Kay County, Washington County and Payne County, Okla.

“These grants provide support to programs and organizations that are enhancing community resources, education and protecting local wildlife,” said Chris Fallon, president of Duke Energy Renewables. “We value our community partners knowing that our contributions are helping improve community resources and services for years to come.”

Duke Energy Renewables grants were awarded to:

  • City of Newkirk / Newkirk Youth Program – upgraded community athletic field; $2,860
     
  • Kildare Public Schools – upgraded student classroom with smart board technology; $3,149
     
  • Newkirk Public Schools – upgraded student classroom with smart board technology; $3,149
     
  • Marland’s Place: Foster Family Services / Ponca City – to support toy drive; $1,500
     
  • Nature’s Vein Wildlife Rescue – expansion of animal rescue enclosure; $10,000
     
  • Sutton Avian Research Center – community education and eagle wildlife reserve camera; $12,500
     
  • Newkirk FFA and 4-H Boosters program – resources for youth agricultural program; $1,000

“Duke Energy Renewables has been a great partner to the Newkirk community and the surrounding counties,” said Jason Shanks, Kay County commissioner. “On top of the economic development that their wind operations generate for the area, the individual contributions they have made to support our schools, little league, youth programs and community services have played an important part in improving our resources for our citizens.”

Kay County is home to Duke Energy Renewables’ Frontier and Frontier II Windpower projects, which total 550 MW of renewable energy.
