Toxic channels inspiration from classic rock, echoing the eerie feel of Hotel California by The Eagles. Its haunting melody and raw lyrics mirror the highs and lows of entangled, unhealthy love. Drawing from personal experience, Stephen crafts a song that resonates with anyone who’s been ensnared in a cycle of longing and heartbreak.

"Toxic is rooted in my own experience with a tumultuous relationship—one I recognized as unhealthy yet found myself repeatedly drawn back to. I wanted the melody to capture those emotional highs and lows, pulling listeners into the same intoxicating whirlwind that defines toxic love," Stephen shares.

Inspired by the iconic line, "You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave," from Hotel California, Stephen sought to evoke a similar sense of eerie entrapment. He explains, "That line both fascinated and unsettled me as a kid, and I wanted to channel that same haunting feeling through this song."

Writing Toxic also became a humbling process of self-reflection. "It's easy to point fingers in toxic relationships, but writing this song made me look inward, recognizing traits like jealousy that I once saw in myself. Despite the pain, I have no regrets—she’s a kind person, and I only wish I had been a better version of myself when we were together."

Following the uplifting and joyful energy of Hum of Love, Toxic showcases a darker, more introspective side of Stephen Sol’s artistry, highlighting his ability to span the emotional spectrum and connect deeply with listeners.
