American Water Publishes 2021 Inclusion, Diversity & Equity Report and ESG Data Summary; Launches Interactive ID&E Website

American Water (NYSE: AWK), the largest publicly traded U.S. water and wastewater utility company, announced today that it has published its 2021 Inclusion, Diversity & Equity (ID&E) report and interactive website along with its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Data Summary as part of the company’s commitment to data transparency and sharing timely information on key diversity and ESG metrics.

“We are pleased to issue these key data metrics and offer additional information on our ESG and ID&E journey,” said Susan Hardwick, president, CEO and CFO of American Water. “We know many of our stakeholders look for measurable progress in both areas and want to invest with companies that are actively committed to the betterment of society and making a positive environmental impact in the communities they serve.”

The 2021 ID&E report includes the company’s consolidated EEO-1 data for American Water for 2020 as well as other key diversity metrics. The report and other information about the company’s comprehensive ID&E strategy can be found on a new, interactive website, DiversityatAW.com, that communicates the company’s efforts to build an inclusive workplace. The new website will be updated quarterly to reflect current workforce diversity data.

The second annual installment of the ESG Data Summary can be found on the Sustainability section of our investor relations website at ir.amwater.com. The ESG Data Summary shares numerous metrics for 2021, including progress toward American Water’s Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions targets. In addition, the Company will begin refreshing its materiality assessment to align ESG efforts with stakeholder priorities and results will be published in its 2021-2022 Sustainability Report.
