Getaround Reveals Earth Day Plans to Support Guests’ Wallets and The Planet

Industry pioneer and world’s first connected carsharing marketplace is offering new U.S. guests up to $100 in savings

Getaround (NYSE: GETR), the world's first connected carsharing marketplace, today announced a special Earth Day promotion that offers new guests in the United States 20% off (up to $20) per trip, which can be used up to five times ($100 value) during the four-week period from April 13 to May 7. The goal is to promote awareness of the environmental benefits of the carsharing business model and help reduce the number of cars on the road, while significantly lessening the emissions of greenhouse gasses (GHGs) and other harmful substances into the environment.

Peer-to-peer carsharing means fewer cars on the road: studies show that, on average, one carsharing vehicle replaces 9 to 13 vehicles. Thanks to carsharing, users are selling their vehicles or postponing the purchase of one.

"In honor of Earth Day, Getaround is taking the opportunity to remind people to do their part in taking action towards supporting fewer cars on the road to reduce traffic, GHGs and pollution. We are very pleased to offer a promotion from Getaround for up to $100 for new customers and look forward to continuing this extremely important conversation with our hosts and guests as, together, we build a better planet,” said Sy Fahimi, Getaround Chief Operating Officer. “Getaround was founded to solve the unsustainable model of traditional private vehicle ownership, as cars spend approximately 162 hours per week – or 95% of a vehicle’s lifespan – parked or in an idle position. This inefficiency is both wasteful and detrimental to our planet, which is exactly why carsharing services, such as Getaround, are encouraging people to share their vehicles when they are not using them and help create more equitable and greener communities.”

Getaround vehicles are easily accessible nationwide, and can be unlocked using only a smartphone. Users can book cars or trucks on-demand for as little as one hour or book a longer trip. New guests who sign up will automatically receive a welcome email with the Earth Day promo code.

To expand on its plans for Earth Day even further and engage with local communities, Getaround employees, along with hosts and guests in markets across the U.S. will be hosting clean up events at local area parks and beaches on Earth Day, Friday April 21. Efforts in Austin, TX will be focused on Sand Beach Park along Lady Bird Lake; San Francisco will see the cleanup of Dolores Park; Venice Beach will be the focus in Los Angeles; Chicagoans will zero in on Harrison Park; and those in Boston will be helping to clean the Boston Common.
