TOKYO, JAPAN (MERXWIRE) – Christmas is being celebrated worldwide, and there are new changes in Japanese people’s choice of Christmas cakes. The latest “Japanese Dessert Market Analysis Report” released by MERXWIRE points out that this year’s Christmas cake consumption trend in Japan is mainly based on price, and simple and plain types are the most popular. The report uses multiple data sources to analyze the key factors influencing Japanese consumers’ choice of Christmas cakes.

According to the latest survey by Cake.jp, a professional mail-order website for cakes and desserts, when consumers buy Christmas cakes this year, the most important things are no longer the gorgeous design but the price and taste. The survey results show that about 62% of consumers list price as the primary consideration when buying Christmas cakes, followed by taste, while cake design is relatively less critical. This shows that consumers are more inclined to choose simple, affordable cakes in the context of rising prices.

It is worth noting that consumers still favor this year’s “name brand” cakes, but “small size that can be eaten” and “royal shortbread type” cakes also quickly jumped to second and third place, showing that simple cakes are More popular than delicate and gorgeous cakes.

Price aside, the strawberry cream cake remains an indispensable Christmas tradition for Japanese people. Fresh cream symbolizes winter snow, and bright red strawberries represent Santa Claus. In addition, red and white colors have festive meanings in Japanese culture, so strawberry cream cake has become a classic choice for Christmas.

Ms. Sato, the interviewee at Daimaru Department Store in Kyoto, said, ” Christmas Eve is a day my family looks forward to and is happy. I buy strawberry cakes every year. This year, I want to buy a smaller size so my family can taste the freshest and most delicious cakes.

Starting two weeks before Christmas Eve, various dessert shops, supermarkets, and convenience stores in Japan will launch a variety of strawberry cream cakes for consumers to choose from. This Christmas, you might as well break the tradition and try to select a simple strawberry cream cake to share with your family and friends to have a warm Japanese Christmas.
