Carol Arscott Photography, Philadelphia-based Pet Photographer, Uses Her Business to Support Rescue

By: Get News
Carol is on a mission to raise a million dollars for animal rescues.

Carol Arscott, a pet photographer in the Philadelphia area, spends her days pursuing her passions - dogs, photography, and rescue.

Rescue is the cornerstone of Carol’s business. She is currently raising $10,000 for Delaware Valley Golden Retriever Rescue (DVGRR). She has photographed approximately 50 dogs to be featured in her upcoming book. 100% of the session fees and proceeds from the book go directly to DVGRR. To keep costs down, the book is only available by pre-order through 2/28/23. https://dvgrr.org/the-heart-of-dvgrr/

Carol will work with various rescues in 2023 to raise money to support their lifesaving work.  She began doing volunteer rescue photography in 2015. She has worked with over a dozen rescues since then. She gives each dog or cat a professional photo session designed to stop viewers in their scroll. The groups report seeing their adoption numbers skyrocket. “Most rescues don’t have the resources to have a dedicated photographer on staff. They are often short handed, and the animal gets a quick cell phone pic on intake. As a result, they can look scared or stressed. The lighting is often poor, and the environment is not optimal - sometimes the animal is in a crate or kennel,” Carol says.

When Carol started in rescue, she photographed most of the animals that came in. Due to the number of organizations she supports, that is no longer possible. “Now rescues call me when they have an animal that needs extra help - an older dog or cat, one with special needs, or one that has just been in rescue for a long time. If you’re like me, you probably follow many rescues on social media and see 100’s of dogs and cats in your newsfeed. My goal is to make that animal stand out and grab attention. I want people to be able to imagine what it would be like to have that animal as part of their family.”

Carol wants to enable other photographers to raise money through book projects. She is creating a course to leverage her knowledge and experience. “There are only so many projects I can take on at once, so it occurred to me that an even better way to help is to train others to go out and do the same. If I can raise $10,000 myself, then imagine what happens if I help 100 or 200 other photographers do the same. My goal in the next 2 years is to train enough photographers to collectively raise a million dollars for rescue. These organizations work tirelessly, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, year after year to save lives and find homes for animals. They have astronomical expenses for food, shelter, and medical care. My vision is to leverage a team to multiply the fundraising efforts.”
